UPDATE: Surfside commissioners approved the development plan for the site of the Champlain Towers South collapse overnight.

This despite objections over a loading dock on 88th Street from several victims' family members.

As part of the approved plan, the developer agreed to move the loading dock off 88th Street to the southwest corner near 87th Terrace. But if the developer cannot secure the proper permits, the current plan remains in place.

(Surfside, Fla.) - A developer will ask the Surfside town commission tonight to approve its plans for the condo collapse site despite protests.

Families of loved ones lost in the condo collapse are unhappy with DAMAC Properties’ plan to place a loading zone, trash pick-up and a construction staging area along 88th Street.

Former Surfside Commissioner Eliana Salzhauer proposed the resolution for the memorial and says the developer needs to find another location away from 88th Street for its trash and loading zone.

“The developer is trying to dig themselves out of the hole they dug themselves into here from the get-go, they should have been more respectful of the memorial and the families.”

Salzhauer predicts the board will approve the developer's plans at tonight's meeting despite the protests.

The developer resubmitted amended plans yesterday to comply with the Town’s new policy.

A large “Rally for Remembrance” demonstration is planned at town hall tonight before the 6 o'clock meeting.
