FSU To Hire Former Houston Offensive Coordinator Kendal Briles As OC

The Florida State Seminoles are expected to hire former Houston offensive coordinator Kendal Briles as the new FSU offensive coordinator. Briles resigned from his position at Houston on Saturday, following the school’s 70-14 loss to Army in the Armed Forces Bowl.

The move will not be without scrutiny, on account of Briles’ presence at Baylor University from 2008-16 (serving as the OC in 2015 and 2016) during which Baylor cake under fire for a sexual assault scandal that cost then head coach Art Briles, the athletic director, and the president of the university their jobs.

Florida State missed a bowl game for the first time in 37 years in large part due to a horrendous offense, and will hope that Briles can fix their problems on that side of the ball. He will replace former OC Walt Bell, who left the program earlier in the month to become the head coach at UMass.
