Former Vols HC Butch Jones Leading Candidate for Colorado St Opening

According to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, Jones has emerged as a strong candidate for the Colorado State head coaching vacancy. Former Colorado State head coach Mike Bobo came to a mutual agreement with the university recently to step down and pursue other employment. It appears that Bobo is headed to South Carolina to become the Gamecocks’ next offensive coordinator.

Prior to Bobo, Jim McElwain, former Alabama offensive coordinator and Florida head coach, was the leader of the Rams’ program.

Jones has been on staff at Alabama since he was fired at Tennessee in 2017. Currently, he’s an analyst for Nick Saban’s program.

Jones has been the head coach at Tennessee, Cincinnati and Central Michigan, and he’s compiled an 84-54 overall record in 11 head coaching seasons. Early on, the former Vols head coach was considered a candidate at Rutgers prior to Greg Schiano taking the job.
